Heart of a Gardener

My training has given me a way to connect with my spirit and understand those things that make it sing. That is when I feel happiest and most fulfilled. It’s an incredible world out there, and I am grateful to have a gift that keeps on giving.

Eye of an Artist

I think that because of my training as an artist, I see the world around me in design terms, such as form, balance, rhythm, dynamic movement. I am constantly searching my visual world for vignettes that express beautiful examples. That critical analysis is the drumbeat of my days.

Following Natures Lead

You’ve got to listen to the site, if you don’t it won’t speak to you. The site can tell you where to define little rooms, where the microclimates are… It’s a way of thinking; it gives you the constraints and opportunities for design.

The Power of Nature…

It gives us a sense of what peace is… it is a force that surrounds and envelops us. It makes my senses come alive, like a rush of energy that I can feel when I slow down enough to be able to hear the birds or the wind in the trees, or to see the colors change or see the greens as it is backlit. It is a rush.

My primary aim…

The whole plan and value is to align the company with “my primary aim”. We are not selling plants, we are not selling paving or pools or gazeboes. We are selling the experiences that come from being with and witnessing the power of nature and its beauty.

We shape the environment to so many levels in a range that goes from managing the natural to recreating the wild, framing existing landscapes where we have such a light touch all the way to developing really structured landscapes that are an extension of architecture. And so there is that full range that takes you from the human to the divine.

It Doesn't Get Any Fresher Than This

A few weeks ago we received this delightful email from a friend:
“How nice to see your name in the Wall Street Journal this morning. Hope all is well.”

“In Newport, R.I., landscape architect Kate Field says she is designing three times as many vegetable and herb gardens for luxury properties as a decade ago. Clients pay roughly $50,000 for installations that feature distinctive touches -- such as granite-edged vegetable beds, fish ponds, sculptures and grapevines wound like topiaries. Edible plants are arranged by color, height and texture, similar to the way garden designers lay out flowers and shrubs.” (The Vegetable Patch Goes Luxe, Ellen Gamerman, July 25, 2008)

Nature… the source of my inspiration

My primary aim is making available to my clients the epiphanies that come from direct contact with nature. This is what does it for me. This is my primary goal.
